Asian Regional Workshop on GHG and Non-GHG Indicators – report published

On 4-5 November 2014, the Philippine Climate Change Commission (CCC) hosted a two-day regional technical workshop in Manila on integrating non-GHG indicators into a national Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supported the workshop through the Information Matters and Support CCC projects. The workshop focused on the following topics: greenhouse gas (GHG) indicators, GHG mitigation indicators, sustainable development and transformational change indicators. In the workshop sessions, participants presented the lessons learned in the individual country contexts and discussed possible improvements to the systems. The event also gave international experts an opportunity to share knowledge on global developments.

The workshop provided a platform for peer-to-peer exchanges on the use of indicators for monitoring GHG emission reductions and for sustainable development in the context of national GHG mitigation programmes. This learning process followed on from a workshop held by the International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV in Seoul, Korea in July 2014, which looked into the experience gained by individual countries in the area of GHG mitigation policies.

The workshop was attended by representatives from 10 Asian countries and international experts from the World Resources Institute (WRI), the International Institute for Sustainable Development (iisd), UNEP DTU and RICARDO-AEA.
