Good Practice: Ensuring data reporting from industry: The US GHG reporting program

The US Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) annually collects greenhouse gas (GHG) data from over 8,000 facilities from industrial sectors across the U.S. Roughly 85-90 percent of total U.S. GHG emissions are covered by the GHGRP. Based on the data collected, the program provides information showing variation in emissions across facilities within a sector/industry, across geographic areas, and over time. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) uses the data collected to improve estimates under the national GHG Inventory. The data also allows to inform regulatory actions and voluntary emission reduction efforts in the U.S.
